Starting off 2010, January ended up a chilly and wet month, all characteristics of El Niño influenced weather. The warmest day of the month was January 22nd, where we saw a max temperature of 66 degrees. The coldest morning was on the 9th, with a chilly 18 degree start. Average out the month, and we ended up a degree and a half below normal. Rain totals were nearly a quarter inch above normal. Throughout the month, especially the latter half, we saw a series of winter storms that brought rain for the lowlands and hefty snows for the area mountains. Interesting fact, compared to January 2009, last month was down right frigid. The El Paso National Weather Service office reports we had 20 plus days last January of 60 degree or warmer weather, with five of those days topping 70 degrees. Meanwhile, January 2010 will go down in the books with only 6 days of 60+ weather and not a single 70 degree day.
