July Is Officially In The Books

July Stats
August 3, 2009 - 10:11am

July is officially over and we've only got 150 days left in the year. In addition to that, meteorological summer is 2/3 over! After a wet and cool start to the summer season (June we were slightly below normal temperature wise and well above normal in rain) things got hot and dry quickly. Above you can see our monthly statistics for July. As you can see, we ended the month over three degrees above normal. As far as rain, things were below normal, with only half of an inch of rainfall. For the month we were nearly an inch below where we should be. A lackluster Monsoon Season thus far after our busy start.

Some other interesting facts:
-Our hottest temperatures of the year were hit in the middle of the month, 105 degrees on both the 14th and 15th. Those are the hottest temps we've seen in two years.
-Our largest 24-hour rain fall was on the 21st and 22nd with .22 inches of rain. We only saw 7 days of measurable precipitation in July.
-Every single day of the month we hit 90 degrees or above for a high temperature.
-Over half of the month's highs were above 100, with 16 being logged.
-According to the El Paso National Weather Service Office, this July was the 18th driest on record.

August tends to be a slightly cooler month in El Paso, with "normal" highs around 93 degrees to start the month and "normal" highs around 90 degrees by the 31st. In addition to this, this month is supposed to be our wettest month of the year, with a normal value of 1.75 inches. We'll see if August can live up to the hype!
