Felicia & Enrique

Two tropical systems are being watched right now, but not where you might think. Though it's rare, on occasion a hurricane or tropical storm will affect our friends in our 50th state, Hawaii. The two systems are hurricane Felicia and tropical storm Enrique... and the above photo was taken yesterday. The image is courtesy of Noaa's Operational Significant Event Imagery. If you ever want to check them out, here is the link: http://www.osei.noaa.gov/ On many occasions they will have fairly interesting photos or images from important nationwide (and sometimes worldwide) events.

So will these two systems bring trouble to paradise? Not likely. As of this blog posting Felicia is a strong category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 miles per hour and continues a westward trek. The official 5 day forecast weakens the storm big time... with it being nothing more than a depression as it barrels toward the Big Island by the 5th day. Meaning the storm will only have winds of 35 miles per hour or less. Meanwhile, T.S. Enrique has winds of 40 miles per hour and will likely be downgraded to a depression today. Within in the next two days the storm will be nothing more than a cluster of clouds in the Central Pacific. Attribute this weakening over the next few days of both storms to cooler waters and eventually increased wind shear. Very common over the waters east of Hawaii. Which is why it's rare that the state sees tropical troubles.
