We're moving toward the end of October and it's only a matter of time before we see below freezing temperatures. Many locations in and near the Borderland have already dropped to or below 32 degrees, the temperature at which water can freeze. Most of those areas are in the mountains and high country. Listed above are selected lowland locations and the average first freeze date. This means we're about a week away from the average date in which minimum temperatures of 32 degrees occur. Growing season is coming to an end for farmers and gardeners alike. The reason why I bring this up is because there is growing evidence of a substantial cool down toward the end of next week. Though computer models are currently in disagreement, it's safe to say a cooler regime will be blasting into the Borderland just before the Halloween weekend. Naturally we're still days away from having a fully confident forecast, but it never hurts to have an early heads up. More details will come to light early next week, so keep it tuned to Newschannel 9 or check back in with us here on the weather page of www.ktsm.com
