Which Day has the Best “Outdoor Weather” this Weekend!
The wind plays a big part in our outdoor activity planning this time of year
Friday, March 28th, 2014 — The weekend is upon us! I do not know about you but I always look for the best outdoor day of the weekend, every day when I look at the forecast. I know it depends on the time of the year, how long you want to spend outside and at what time of the day. This time of the year, all the outdoor plans depend on how strong the wind is going to blow. The Borderland has one ideal outdoor activity day this weekend and one that will be not so great in the afternoon. That is why in today’s “Weather Talk” I decided to write a more detailed forecast for the 7 days.
Temperature wise this weekend will be above average and very warm. In fact Sunday will be near the record high of 86º set back in 2010! Saturday the winds be picture perfect, nice and light for most of the day. The building ridge of high pressure will move over our region actually increase the winds into the breezy range Saturday night, not bad. Factor in quick daytime heating, and a surface trough of low pressure, kind of like a ditch in the atmosphere, east of the mountains and winds will increase into the windy category by Sunday afternoon. These winds will warm up Sunday well above normal and we should at least tie the record high of 86º.
It is crazy to think El Paso will be near a record high of 86º and there is an estimated 6” of snowfall expected in the higher elevations of northern Washington, central Idaho and northwest Wyoming!
An upper level trough or wave and Pacific cool front travel into the Borderland Sunday night. The cool air mixing in early Monday morning will drop the high temperature some 5º to 8º from Sunday’s very warm highs. The temperatures will still be above normal on Monday. The next, stronger upper level wave will produce strong, gusty winds as this system tracks through late Tuesday into Wednesday. The most powerful winds will make for a dusty day winds on Tuesday with possible 45+mph peak wind gusts.
Another weak cool front will cause the temperatures will cool a bit into the lower 70’s late Wednesday and closer to the 70º mark, may be down into the upper 60’s on Thursday. Friday should have winds just in the low end breezy range with high temperatures warming back to the near normal mid 70’s.
OK, here is a quick glance 7 day forecast synopsis;
Saturday-Finally! Light winds out of the southeast at 5- 10 mph under Sunny skies High 78º
Sunday-Late clouds, windy, southwest winds 20-30 peak gust of 40+mph, near record High of 86º
Monday-Mostly Sunny, Breezy, High drops to near 80º
Tuesday-Very Windy, dusty, west -southwest winds 20-35 peak gusts of 45+mph, mostly sunny High 82º
Wednesday- Add P.M.. Clouds, low end windy to breezy, High of 76º
Thursday-Not as Warm, breezy, high of 70º
Friday-Sunny skies, low end breezy, nice, warmer high of 75º
Well, there you have it. Saturday is the best outdoor day of the weekend. Sunday morning will not be too bad until we start heating up, then winds will get going. Saturday would be a nice hammock day, yes that sound perfect a little “Siesta” in the shade! Whatever ever plans have a most enjoyable and safe weekend!
