Weeding out your garden
(El Paso) KTSM — I hate Saturday's only because it's the one day a week that my mother makes my two siblings and I go outside and clean the front yard.
It's really not hard actually, all we need to do is mow the lawn, clean whatever trash the wind drags over and getting rid of the weeds.
The latter is what causes me so many headaches, only because it's such tedious work, and because it happens to be the duty I am stuck with.
With rain continuing to drop down on the borderland, those weeds get enough water to grow and make my life insanely impossible.
I am actually forecasting rain tonight into tomorrow morning, and although it may only be a few spriinkles, it'll be enough to make more weeds pop up.
So, if you are like me, and hate having to get your hands dirty and sticky from pulling up all those unwanted plants, here is a homemade remedy to help weed out your garden.
This was actually suggested to me from a friend on facebook.
You'll need 1/2 gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/4 cup of table salt, 1/2 tsp of Dawn liquid dish soap.
All you need to do then is mix the ingredients in a spray bottle and TA-DA!! You have yourself an amazing spray to kill all those pesky weeds!
And the ingredients aren't all that expensive! The 1/2 gallon of apple cider vinegar can be found for about around $7.
The idea of these ingredients is so that the weeds are easily stripped from the ground.
For example, the Dawn dish soap strips the weed of its protective oils so the vinegar can work with deadly force. It's also safe to use in yards and most importantly safe for pets!!
I was actually a bit skeptical about this concoction, but let me tell you, I tried it today during our yard-cleaning-day, and I have to say, it actually works!
You actually have to spray it on the weeds thoroughly and let it sit for a while. I sprayed this stuff Friday (the day before) and today, I could not tell you how easy it was to pull those suckers out!
Too bad it's going to rain again today, which means all that hard work was for nothing because next Saturday, I am going to have to repeat the procedure all over again.
But at least now I'll have my magic spray.
