Looking Back At February '10, This Week's Weather (3/1)

Looking Back At February '10, This Week's Weather (3/1)

POSTED: Monday, March 1, 2010 - 1:34pm

UPDATED: Monday, March 1, 2010 - 2:05pm

After packing on another .04" of rain yesterday, we finished one of the wetter February's in recent memory. In fact, with a grand total of 1.43" of precipitation (including 1/2" of snow we picked up on 23rd) last month turned out to be over an inch above normal in the precip category. The extra clouds and storms, undoubtedly influence by the El Niño weather pattern we've had since last fall, kept our temperatures down as well. We finished the month almost a degree and a half below normal. Interestingly, our warmest temperature this February was high of 70 degrees on the 18th. Compare that to three days of 80 plus weather last February and 9 days of 70 plus weather in February 2009, and you can see why El Pasoans are ready for Spring.

This Week's Weather

Expect a nice warm dry stretch this week with only a wind maker in the Thursday time frame. Our next major storm system rolls in late in the weekend or early next week. At this point, that storm could end up being a wind or a rain maker. Hard to tell this far out with the differing computer solutions. Naturally we'll keep you up to date here on Newschannel 9. In the mean time, just because the calendar has flipped over to March, doesn't mean we're done with the wintry weather. In fact, the Climate Prediction Center has issued it's outlook for March and indications are that we're looking at another cool and wet month. I'll have more information on that later this week right here on this blog.
