EL PASO — Dozens of homeless veterans received some much needed help Friday.
The El Paso Veterans Association held its annual stand down event to connect vets to VA services and community resources.
More than 200 volunteers were also on hand giving out sleeping bags, clothes, and hygiene items.
"Oh the bond of brotherhood is here,” said volunteer Robin, who used to be a homeless vet. “I feel that love and support and i'm able to give that back."
Stand downs are held in cities across the country. The veterans outreach effort began in 1988. In the 24 years since more than 200 thousand veterans have benefited from the program.
