Mark Mathis Host/Meteorologist/Entertainment Reporter
Mark Mathis is the morning meteorologist for News Channel 9 Today. He also serves as the show's entertainment reporter and co-host. Mathis arrives in El Paso from Sacramento where he was the host of Good Day Sacramento and prior to that was the host of Fox News Rising in Charlotte, NC.
In 1994 Mathis started working as morning and noon meteorologist with WFAA in Dallas, and fill-in host of Good Morning Texas. He then joined KTBC in Austin, Texas as chief Meteorologist. He then transferred to KSWB San Diego then back East to WCCB in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2002. Segments from his shows in Charlotte were rebroadcast on Late Night with David Letterman, MTV, VH1, E!, Ifilm, WGN Radio, Fox News Channel, the BBC, United Kingdom TV, and German National TV. Japan and Russian National Televison. Mark has also performed on stage with The Footlight Players, Charleston Stage Company, Zachary Scott Theater, Majestic Theater, La Jolla Stage Company, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
Mathis has appeared as a co-host on The Daily Buzz, WizeTrade TV and was the host of Fox News Edge which was a nightly loose look at the news. While in Charlotte, Mathis also covered American Idol for 8 seasons.
As a public speaker and performer, Mathis has performed in night clubs around the country, including the world's largest Comedy Zone Club in Charlotte, where he had his own weekly comedy show called Mathis Madness. He appeared in television commercials for Interstate Batteries, American Airlines, Bud Light, AT&T, GTE and Time-Life Books and Ford Motor Company and Dodge dealerships. He hosted 'Making the Band' for CBS television. His reputation for zaniness has given him YouTube celebrity status, where previews of his on-air acts can be found. He is a guest speaker and humorist often called on by professional organizations. On Feb 8, 2008, Mathis performed for the One Show on BBC-1 in front of 5 million viewers.
After earning his BBA in Marketing and Broadcasting from Baylor University, Mathis launched his broadcasting career as the chief meteorologit at WBTW Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before advancing to WCIV in Charleston. He soon added an Applied Science Degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State College. He has also served as a meteorologist in San Antonio and Colorado.
Mathis hosts benefits and is actively involved in charities in and around the country. He is a member of FAVOR (Faces and Voices of Recovery). He also has hosted the annual New Year's Eve Benefit for the Charlotte Rescue Mission and is the MC for the Masquerade Ball which benefits Colorado Drug Endangered Children Program. He has served as grand Marshall of the Thanksgiving Day Parade's in Dallas and Charlotte.
