Monique Griego left her home state of Arizona to join the NewsChannel 9 team in October of 2006. At first, she was a little worried about being in a new place and being away from the place she called home. But, El Paso has become her home away from home.
Monique attended college at Arizona State University, graduating from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. During her time at ASU, Monique interned at several stations in Phoenix. She also reported for the ASU student newscast, ASU Newswatch. It was during this time that Monique earned several awards, including a William Randolph Hearst Award for feature reporting and A National Top Ten Student Journalism Award.
Monique's first job in the business came when KTVK in Phoenix offered her a full time position as an Associate Producer during her senior year. She worked there for a year. But when Monique graduated, she headed to the Sun City to begin her on-air reporting career.
Monique has covered a variety of stories during her time here at NewsChannel 9. She covers breaking news, politics and has told many stories about the unique people who live in the Borderland. She enjoys getting to know people when she’s working and sharing their stories with our viewers.
When she’s not working, Monique is most likely hanging out with friends, reading the news, watching reality T.V., laughing or just relaxing.
If you have a story to tell Monique, you can e-mail her at mgriego@ktsm.com
