Javi Perez joined the NewsChannel 9 Sports team in June of 2008.
He came from Midland-Odessa's KOSA CBS 7, where he served as weekend sports anchor for two years. Just before he left, he won a 2008 Texas AP Award for his work on The Wire, a Sunday night sports show that had been on the air less than a year. He co-created and co-anchored the show.
Javi also co-hosted a Friday night football show The 5th Quarter on Friday Nights during the high school football season, the highest-rated high school football show in the Permian Basin.
Javi graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, where he covered two Rose Bowls and the Longhorns' National Championship football team. He also covered Texas basketball when they reached the Final Four.
Javi was born and raised in McAllen, TX.
