I began my TV career in Miami, FL. There I worked overnight as a news-writer at Miami's FOX affiliate, WSVN. While at channel 7 I learned the “ins and outs” of the TV business. It allowed me to move on to a competitive internship with Miami's NBC affiliate, NBC 6. At NBC 6 I worked with the award-winning investigative team, and went undercover in an award-winning investigation about consumer fraud called: "Puppy Heartbreak."
I moved on to bigger and better things at WPTV Newschannel 5 in June of 2006. I became the Investigative producer for Contact 5, WPTV's consumer investigative unit and the weekend reporter. That experience allowed me to win 4 Emmy Awards and the Top Journalism honor, an Edward R. Murrow Award.
I was born in Chicago and raised in South Florida. I come from a large Puerto Rican-American family that loves to cook and eat. I love going to sunny South Florida and traveling to the "Windy City" any time I get a chance-- even if it's just for a weekend to catch a Cubs game.
When I am not working you can find me around the Borderland discovering new places to hangout. My motto is "There is nothing like going somewhere new and getting lost...because the second time you go, you will be visiting." If you see me out and about feel free to say “hello.”
I cover all kinds of stories, but most importantly I am Newschannel 9's Trouble Shooter. You can email me at Iperez@ktsm.com
