Fred Albers has worked 25 years in television reporting sports. That equates to more than 12 thousand sportscasts. In the course of that time, he's won awards in Missouri, Mississippi and Texas, but the majority of his work has been in El Paso.

Albers arrived in the Sun City in September of 1980, just in time for the start of the football season.

He helped originate the first half hour high school football show in El Paso, a tradition that exists even today with "NewsChannel 9 Overtime," which airs Fridays during football season on NewsChannel 9.

After spending a dozen years working at KVIA, Albers followed General Manager Richard Pearson to KTSM in 1992 and has worked the last decade for NewsChannel 9. He has been the television voice of the Miners, broadcasting football and basketball games throughout the Western Athletic Conference. Albers also spent a three year stint with ESPN, announcing golf for the cable network.

Perhaps the biggest change in Fred's life occurred August 18th, 2001, when his first child was born. He and wife Kristi are the proud parents of Austin Frederick Albers.
