An exciting day for some Borderland families as they're given the keys to their new homes. The Housing Authority of El Paso held a grand opening ceremony for nearly 60 units for low income families at Alamito in Segundo Barrio. Construction of the project, funded by a federal grant, began in 2005.

"The stuff we had before was pre World War II. It was asbestos-laden. We had lots of problems, very small units, didn't really have any of the modern amenities. and we had a chance to tear it all down and build from scratch.

In total, 350 units will have been replaced by the time the project is completed in the fall.
