Good Samaritan Killed On Interstate 10

Investigators from the El Paso Police Departments Special Traffic Investigations unit responded to an early morning crash on Interstate 10 West near Airway. Police were called to a report of a crash shortly after 5:30 this morning.
According to athorities, 25-year-old Liz Gonzalez was killed after she stopped to help a 49-year-old woman who was still inside her vehicle. The woman's vehicle, a 2001 Ford Mustang, was laying on its side after being involved in a crash with a Nissan X-Terra.
Gonzalez assisted the woman in getting out of her vehicle. A bronze Jeep Cherokee came over the over pass at Airway and lost control. The Jeep then struck Gonzalez. Gonzalez died at the scene.
Ice on the roadway is a factor in both of the collisions. At this time there are no charges pending. Information on other injuries are not available at this time.
Gonzalez was a civilian employee for the El Paso County Sheriffs Office.
This is the eigth traffic fatality this year compared to six at this time last year. This is the second pedestrian fatality this year as compared to one at this same time last year.
