City leaders are hoping to sweeten a deal that could bring the 2011 Conference USA basketball tournament to El Paso.
Today the City Council voted to help cover any lost revenue if the event comes to the Sun City.
So far, no word on the amount of revenue that would be guaranteed.
"It looks very likely that the revenues will exceed the expense of the tournament. In the case they don't, the city and county, in a joint resolution, have said they will underwrite any revenue downfalls, "said Bill Blaziek, General Manager The Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The money would come from the city's hotel occupancy tax.
The El Paso Sports Commission has also offered to help cover any shortfall.
