EL PASO- The El Paso Teachers Association says it's happy with the district's decision to put Superintendent Garcia on unpaid leave.

Norma De La Rosa says news of Garcia’s arrest couldn't come at a worse time, a distraction for sure as teachers and students prepare for the start of school.
Despite the controversy, she says the district will move forward this school year.

"Everyone needs to understand we have to let the process take place Dr. Garcia is innocent until proven guilty and needs to have his day in court," says De La Rosa.

She added that since a lot of kids - especially those in middle and high school - will be asking about the latest headlines it's probably good for parents to explain the situation to them.
