It was the series finally, between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees as the winner takes the series after splitting the first two games. Both the Angels and Yankees are close division races, with Yankees trailing the Boston Red Sox by one game and the Angels trailing the Texas Rangers by two games.
To Yankee Stadium we go for the rubber match, and we move to the bottom of the 7th when Mark Teixeria chops one up the middle, but second baseman Macier Izturis bobbles it and has no play allowing the bases to be loaded. This would prove to critical as the very next batter Robison Cano goes deep to right field for the grand slam, giving the Yankees a 5-2 lead.
What looked like a done deal when Mariano Rivera came turned into a double take for Yankee fans. As Russell Branyan's three-run homer on the first pitch Rivera threw in the ninth inning. But it was not enough to wipe out the lead, and the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-5
