The Dallas Cowboys committed two crucial mistakes at the end of both halves that ended up being too much to overcome to secure a victory in the season opener.
With under ten seconds to go at the end of the first half, the cowboys decided to run a play instead of taking a knee and down 3-0 at halftime. The result was disasterous as Tashard Choice was stripped by DeAngelo Hall who took the fumble back for a touchdown and gave the Redskins at 10-0 advantage.
Then at the end of the game and a chance to win, a Roy Williams touchdown was overturned because of a holding call by Alex Barron after time expired. Head Coach Wade Phillips knows the Cowboys beat themselves.
"A disappointing loss obviously. I felt we gave it away. The play before the half was a big big play in the ballgame. Then the last play off the game. I've never seen that happen before when you score a touchdown and get a penalty and the game is over," said Phillips. Dallas QB Tony Romo added, "It's tough to swallow right now. A difficult feeling because you thought you won and it's kind of taken away from you."
Dallas will need to regroup as the prepare to host Chicago this Sunday.
