Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Karl Benson announced today that San Jose State University football coach Mike MacIntyre has been reprimanded for his actions on the field near the end of the game against Nevada on Sept. 17.

“Coach MacIntyre’s actions clearly violated the WAC’s sportsmanship code and will not be tolerated,” said Benson. “Any further violation may result in him being suspended for a minimum of one game.”

“Mike MacIntyre’s actions on the field in the final moments of our game last Saturday were unacceptable,” said San Jose State Athletics Director Tom Bowen. “Regardless of the circumstances connected with the game, it is paramount that our coaches and players exhibit the highest possible forms of sportsmanship.”

“I appreciate Tom Bowen’s cooperation regarding this matter and his willingness to take institutional action prior to my reprimand,” added Benson.

“I realize my actions at the end of our game with Nevada last Saturday were unsportsmanlike. Clearly, what happened was outside the scope of what I want for the San Jose State football program, the athletics department, the university and our fans,” said MacIntyre. “I want to offer this public apology and vow that nothing like this will happen again.”
