Van Horn wins first track state championship

On May 10th in Austin, Texas, the Van Horn Lady Eagles competed at the Texas High School State Track & Field meet. The Lady Eagles qualified for State in the 4x100, 4x200, 200m race, 800m run and 1600m run.

The 4x100 relay consisted of 1st leg Renee Rivera, 2nd leg Leslie Gonzales, 3rd leg Mireya Quintana and anchor was Karina Ramirez. They won the race with a time of 48.85 (their personal best)...

The 4x200 consisted of the same girls and same legs. They got 1st in that race as well with a time of 1:44.46 (personal best).  Van Horn's Karina Ramirez placed 6th in the 200m dash.  April Padilla ran the 800m and came in 4th, and also ran the 1600m and came in 3rd with a time of 5:24.30 (Bronze Medal). 

After the State Meet point totalled was tallied, the Van Horn Lady Eagles came out victorious and won the State Track Meet as a team as well with 51 points. This is the 1st time in Van Horn CCAISD history that the program earned a track State Championship.
