UTEP's Tucker Named C-USA Spirit of Service Award Winner
Konner Tucker, who completed his college eligibility as a member of the UTEP basketball team this season, was appointed one of 12 Winter Conference USA Spirit of Service Award winners on Tuesday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with these honorees representing Conference USA’s winter sports: men’s and women’s basketball, women’s swimming and diving and men’s and women’s indoor track and field.
Tucker, a graduate student pursuing his Masters of Leadership Studies, played in 25 games for the Miners this season with 22 starts. He ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game. He rated among the C-USA leaders in free throw percentage (first, .918), three-point field goal percentage (10th, .397) and three-point field goals made per game (tied for 11th, 2.0). Tucker scored in double figures in 14 games.
The Fort Worth, Texas native also completed 18 hours of community service for the 2012-13 athletic year, including volunteering with the 50/50 raffle (raising money for UTEP's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and speaking to children at St. Clement Elementary School and Sierra Elementary School.
