UTEP's Rotich Clocks in the Second-Fastest Time in the Nation

Anthony Rotich sweeps in Albuquerque for the second time this season.
The sophomore crossed the finish line first in the men’s mile and 3,000m on Saturday. The All-American registered the second fastest time in the nation posting a time of 4:03.06, which converts to 3:57.76 with altitude conversions. The distance runner also earned the No. 2 spot in the UTEP recordbooks for his performance at the New Mexico Classic.
Rotich didn’t stop there as he claimed the crown in the 3,00m registering a time of 8:14.90 defeating 27 runners.
The men’s 4x400m (Carnell Horn, A-Shawni Mitchell, Daniel Tarango, Abiola Onakoya) relay also proved to be victorious as the squad took first with a time of 3:15.11. The team defeated Air Force, West Texas A&M, New Mexico, Miami, Langston, Western State, Colorado Mines, Adams State and Colorado Mesa.
Onakoya finished in first place in the 400m clocking in a time of 47.61. Freshman Carnell Horn took fourth place with a time of 48.89.
Onakoya didn’t stop there as he represented the Miners in the 200m. The sophomore claimed third place with a mark of 21.82. Finishing closely behind him was teammate Kyron Joseph, who recorded a time of 21.84 taking fourth overall.
Mark Jackson was the top Miner to finish the 60m as he posted a time of 6.72, which converts to 6.74 with altitude. Jackson’s time earned him the 36th-fastest time in the nation.
On the women’s side, Janice Jackson once again claimed first place for the second time this season. The junior crossed the finish line with a time of 8.33 winning the 60m hurdles by eight seconds. Samantha Sharper was fourth overall in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.60.
Yolanda Suggs took third place in the women’s 200m recording a time of 24.50. Teammate Magen Del Pino was seventh overall with a mark of 24.98.
Suggs went on to compete in the 60m dash and was the top Miner finisher with a time of 7.54, which earned her a sixth place finish at the New Mexico Classic.
The Miners will be back in action on Feb. 9th at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
