Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - 4:59pm

Sophomore standouts Xitlali Herrera and Jeane Horton were named to the All-Conference USA squad announced C-USA officials Wednesday.

Herrera was named to the first team while Horton earned second team honrs. This is the first such honor for Herrera and the second for Horton who was named to the league’s All-Freshman squad a year ago.

Herrera becomes the third Miner in program history to earn first team honors (Kari Stacy 2005; Gina Carreon 1984; and Michelle Stovall 1983 and 1984).

The sophomore has started in 32 matches this season and ranks sixth in hitting percentage (.321), sixth in blocks (132) and 10th in kills (384). The Mexican native registered 11 double-doubles this season and recorded double-digit kill performances in 25 matches. She also tallied a conference-high 12 blocks (2s/1a) against SMU earning her a spot in the UTEP recordbooks. The sophomore ranks second in single-season school annals for block assists with 121.

Horton started in all 33 matches this season and ranks 11th in C-USA in kills (380). The Fresno, Calif. native has posted three 20-plus performances in 2011. She hammered a conference-high 25 kills against Houston.
