The UTEP volleyball team defeated Florida Atlantic 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16) in its first Conference USA home match of the season on Friday nigh at Memorial Gym.

UTEP is now 8-5 overall, and 2-1 in C-USA as FAU drops to 9-7 and 1-2 in league play.
Xitlali Herrera led the Miners with 17 kills earning her a match high .343 attack percentage. The senior added 12 digs and two blocks (1s/2a). Talia Jones followed with 15 kills as Malia Patterson secured 46 assists for UTEP’s offense.

The Owls took the lead in the first match as a 6-0 run put the score 15-8. FAU held the Miners as it took the first set with two consecutive kills by Alessia Pizzoccheri.

Both squads fought point for point in the second set as the score tied eight times. The Miners took the lead with 7-0 run as a kill by Dominique Millette captured the set.

The Orange and Blue continued to find success in the third set as it held the Owls to a -.026 hitting percentage.

A 7-0 run in the fourth set gave the Miners a 21-10 lead. UTEP kept the lead as three kills by the Orange and Blue capitalized off of two FAU errors.

The Miners will return to the court Sunday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. (MT) with their second conference home match against FIU.
