Senior Xitlali Herrera recorded her ninth double-double of the season but it wasn’t enough as UTEP fell to UNT, 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 21-25).

Herrera led the Miners as she hammered out a match high 13 kills while delivering 12 digs. Sophomore Talia Jones followed with 10 kills with only 2 errors, posting a .471 hitting percentage against UNT. Malia Patterson aided the Miners’ offense securing 27 assists.

Both teams opened the match fighting point for point in the first set, but a 5-1 run put the Mean Green ahead, 16-11. UNT kept its lead as they sealed the set off with a kill by Courtney Windham.

Still in the game, the Miners fought for points in the second half as they tied with the Mean Green nine times. However, with the score knotted up at 20, their efforts fell short as a 5-1 run gave the second set to UNT.

In the third set, UTEP improved its hitting percentage to a .258 but it wasn’t enough to hold the Mean Green from capturing the final set and the match.

The UTEP volleyball team will continue on the road as it travels to Las Cruces, N.M to face off against rival NM State in the battle of the I-10 on Nov. 12th.
