The UTEP men’s track and field team jumps up the national rankings to No.13 announced the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

After two successful meets the Miners have moved up nine spots in the national ranking. The squad is the only C-USA school to be ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Leading the Orange and Blue this season is All-American Anthony Rotich. The junior has already captured three collegiate crowns this season. At the UNM Cherry & Silver Invitational Rotich registered a personal best time of 4:01.11 in the mile run. His performance currently ranks him No.1 in the nation with an altitude conversion of 3:55.86.

Also representing the distance squad is Cosmas Boit. The freshman took second in the mile run with a time of 4:13:07 at the Lobo Collegiate Open ranking him second in Conference USA. At the Cherry & Silver Invitational Boit placed third in the 600m with 1:20:29.

On the field, the Orange and Blue is represented by Mark Jackson. Competing in the triple jump for the first time this season, the senior posted a personal best of 16.21m (53-02,25) at the Cherry & Silver Invitational. Jackson’s performance ranks him third in the nation and eighth in program history.

Rounding out the men’s team is the 4x400m relay team who opened up the season with a second place finish of 3:12.27. The squad consisted of Carnell Horn, A-Shawni Mitchell, James Bias and Abiola Onakoy. The relay team currently sits at No. 34 in the nation.

The track and field team will have two weeks to prepare for the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas on February 8th.
