The UTEP men’s track and field team moves up the national rankings to No.12 announced the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

After participating at the highly competitive Texas A&M Invitational, the Miners climb up one spot in the national rankings. The squad is the only C-USA school to be ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Leading the Orange and Blue this weekend was the distance medley relay made up of Cosmas Boit (1,200m), Abiola Onakoya (400m), Daniel Tarango (800m) and Anthony Rotich (1,600m).

The squad placed first with a time of 9.37.31 beating LSU, UCLA, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Houston. The squad’s performance is the third-fastest time in Miner history and currently ranks them seventh in the nation.

Continuing the success for the Miners, Boit captured the crown in the mile run as he dominated the competition with a 4:04.39 finish. His time ranks second in C-USA.

Also representing the distance squad was Elphas Maiyo, who won his first crown of the season in the 5,000m run with a personal best finish of 14:29.64.

On the field, UTEP was represented by Mark Jackson. Competing in the long jump for the first time this season, the senior posted a meet record of 7.61m (24-11.75) at the Texas A&M Invitational ranking him 13th nationally and second in C-USA. Jackson is also ranked fourth nationally in the triple jump with his showing at UNM’s Cherry & Silver Invitational where he registered a personal best of 16.21m (53-02,25).

This weekend the Miners will head back to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Don Kirby T&F Elite Invitational before heading to Birmingham, Ala. for the C-USA Indoor Championships.
