UTEP women’s tennis head coach Myriam Sopel announced the signing of Jeannez Daniel for the 2014-15 season on Monday. Daniel signed her national letter of intent on Wednesday, May 7.

Daniel, who will graduate from Florida Virtual School this month, competed at International Tennis Federation tournaments in a variety of places prior to signing with UTEP.

“I’m so excited to have her as a part of the Miner family,” Sopel said. “She’s very good and very talented, as well as a great student. Jeannez is a hard worker and I can’t wait to start coaching her.”

A native of Port Charlotte, Fla., Daniel recently battled in a tournament in Raleigh, N.C. This past March she was in Lima, Peru, winning a match over Peru native Maricielo Torres Chihuan, 6-3, 6-1. In November of 2013 and February of this year, Daniel traveled to Anatalya, Turkey for competition. Daniel notched another win last July in Brussels, Belgium, defeating Australian native Chantelle Rigozzi, 6-2, 6-3.

In June of 2012, Daniel tallied back-to-back victories over Lizeth Ramirez (Colombia), 6-4, 6-1, and Elyse Steiner, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, in Williamsburg, Va. During April the same year, Daniel partnered with Alexis Dorr in a doubles match in Heraklion, Greece and bested Michaela Frlicka (Germany) and Diana Marcu (Romania), 6-4, 3-6, (10-8).

Daniel forged a 3-0 record versus other four-star recruits in 2013, defeating Kamilla Beisenova (Maryland), 6-2, 6-3, Caitlyn Merzbacher (Minnesota), 6-2, 6-0, and Kirsten Ward (North Carolina), 6-2, 6-3.

Daniel is a 5-foot-9, right-handed athlete, who started to play at the age of five.
