UTEP runner earns another C-USA honor
El Paso, TX — Two-Time National Champion Anthony Rotich was named C-USA Male Track Performer of the Meet on Thursday.
The All-American was chosen by C-USA track and field coaches earlier this week, based on their performances at the C-USA Indoor Championship.
The Kenyan native won gold in the men's 1,500m run, 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m run to help the Miners finish second out of 12 conference teams. The Conference USA Champion opened the final day of events capturing the crown in the 1,500m run with a time of 8:53.27. The distance runner would round out the meet as a triple threat for the Miners for a second consecutive year as he garnered gold in the 5,000m run with a finish of 14:24.58. He ultimately claimed 30 points for UTEP garnering High Performer of the Meet Honors.
Rotich will join 16 of his fellow teammates in Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Round May 29-31.
