UTEP runner captures second Conference USA title
EL Paso, TX — Defending champion Anthony Rotich captured the 2013 Conference USA individual title on Saturday morning.
Rotich led the men’s team to a fourth place finish as he dominated the course crossing the finish line first with a time of 24:31.57 in the 8K race. This is the sophomore’s second consecutive C-USA crown and his fifth victory of his 2013 campaign.
Freshman Cosmas Boit declared a bronze finish with a time of 24:53.62. Boit’s time earned him the Freshman of the Meet Honor as he was the first freshman to cross the finish line.
Rounding out the men’s team is Elphas Maiyo who secured sixth place out of 96 competitors with a mark of 25:08.38
On the women’s side, freshman Truphena Sum was the first Miner to cross the finish line as she posted a personal-best of 19:19.62. El Paso native, Laura Delgado followed close behind with a mark of 19:31.07.
The UTEP cross country team will return to the course in two weeks at the 2013 NCAA Mountain Regional meet in Ogden, Utah on Friday, Nov. 15th.
