UTEP men's golf finishes 10th in Santa Cruz
El Paso, TX — The UTEP men's golf team landed 10th at the 68th Annual Western Intercollegiate on Sunday in Santa Cruz, Calif., the Miners' final tuneup prior to the Conference USA Championships April 27-29.
The Miners lowered their score round-to-round, finishing with a two-day total of 1,086 (374-358-354). Fourth-ranked Stanford outlasted a 14-team field that featured 10 teams rated in the nation's top-45. The Cardinal shot 1,040 (347-349-344) to separate itself from second-place Washington (347-355-354-1056) by 16 strokes.
Martin Simonsen was UTEP's top finisher, carding a two-under-par 208 (73-70-65) to tie for ninth place. Frederik Dreier tied for 33rd place (70-73-72-215), Jere Pelletier tied for 48th place (77-73-69-219), Jose Manuel Romero tied for 60th place (78-71-73-222), Roberto Ruiz tied for 68th place (76-71-76-223) and Jacob Loya took 89th place (83-82-75-240).
