UTEP junior is tied for 34th at NCAA Regionals

UTEP junior Martin Simonsen fired a two-over-par 74 on day one of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship San Antonio Regional on Thursday.

Simonsen is tied for 34th place.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals, slated for May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

The top teams are Georgia (281), College of Charleston (285), UCF (288), SMU (288), UCLA (290) and TCU (290). Simonsen is currently tied for 17th among individuals not on those teams and sits four strokes behind Georgia Southern’s Hayden Anderson and Northwestern’s Jack Perry, who lead the group with a two-under-par 70.

The tournament continues with 18 holes on both Friday and Saturday.
