UTEP HOOPS: Meet Freshman Omega Harris

KTSM
UTEP

POSTED: Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 10:46pm

UPDATED: Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 11:05pm

After the early signing period in November, UTEP Head Coach Tim Floyd said, “We’re looking for all three to be able to impact our program as freshmen.” One of those three impact freshman is Omega Harris.

The The 6-2 Harris was runner-up for 2014 Player of the Year in the state of Oklahoma and listed as the no. 3 prospect in the state by Scout.com and 247Sports.com and considered a three-star prospect by Rivals and Scout.com. He collected 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists
per game as a senior at Putnam City West High School and led PC West to a state runner-up finish on his way to being named The Oklahoman’s
Big All-City Boys Player of the Year.

“Omega is a dynamic guard who’s very good in the open court,” Floyd said. “He can really get in the lane and make plays for others. He has a great ability to score the basketball.”

Harris expect to split time at both guard positions and is confident he can contribute to the Miners.

"I'm bringing a fast point guard, coast-to-coast. Get the rebound, I can just go. I can dish it out to the big man if I see help. It's not really too much of an adjustment. It's just a gym and a ball, that's where I'm home."
