UTEP golf in second at Herb Wimberly Invitational
El Paso, TX — The UTEP men's golf team is two strokes off the lead through 36 holes of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Monday in Las Cruces.
The Miners fired rounds of 289 and 285 for a total of 574, putting them in second place behind host NM State (283-289-572). The final 18 holes of the 17-team tournament will be played on Tuesday.
UTEP's Martin Simonsen is tied for second place with a two-under-par 140 (73-67). Northern Colorado's Ben Krueger leads the field of 96 golfers (70-69-139).
The Miners' Jere Pelletier is tied for 13th place (72-72-144), Frederik Dreier (72-73-145) and Roberto Ruiz (72-73-145) are tied for 18th place, and Prescott Mann is tied for 40th place (74-76-150). UTEP's Jacob Loya (75-75-150) and Ian Patterson (75-75-150), competing as individuals, are tied for 40th place. Jose Manuel Romero is also playing as an individual and is tied for 79th place (79-78-157).
