UTEP bench see extended minutes in exhibition

UTEP bench see extended minutes in exhibition

Saturday, January 4, 2014 - 11:51pm

Nine Miners logged double-digit minutes Saturday night as Tim Floyd gave his bench extended playing time in a midseason exhibition against Division II Angelo St. that the Rams won 75-70.

UTEP struggled to defend the deep ball as ASU made 11 of 22 three-point attempts. Turnovers also plagued the Miners giving the ball up 15 times, 12 in the first half alone to trail 39-29 at the half.

Vince Hunter led UTEP with 21 points. C.J. Cooper (10) and Cedrick Lang (12) were also double-figure scorers.

Despite the loss, the outcome was not as important as the experience for the UTEP bench who could play a factor when the Miners start conference play next week. Seniors John Bohannon and Justin Crosgile did not play for "disciplinary reason" and UTEP is still without leading scorer McKenzie Moore and Jalen Ragland who are serving an indefinite suspension.

UTEP opens conference play Thursday at home versus C-USA newcomer Charlotte.
