Anthony Rotich continues to dominate on the track as he finished in the top-10 at the Husky Classic on Saturday.

The junior ran in the men’s 3,000m and clocked in a season best of 7:56.60, registering the 11th fastest time in the nation. The All-American finished sixth overall in a competitive field and is still first in Conference USA in the event.

Teammate Cosmas Boit followed with time of 8:05.60. The freshman finished 14th overall and currently ranks second in the league.

Albuquerque, N.M. – The women’s 4x400m relay team clocked in the fastest time in Conference USA at the Don Kirby T&F Elite Invitational on Saturday.

“Everyone was 100 percent focused today,” head coach Mika Laaksonen. “It was our last meet before the Conference USA Championships, and the team used that as motivation. We still have to go back to practice to work on a few things but I was happy with everyone’s effort today.”

In the last event of the meet, the women’s 4x400m relay consisting of Janice Jackson, Aiyanna Stiverne, Florence Uwakwe, and Anna-Kay James finished first in the second heat and fifth overall with a personal best time of 3:42.27.

Jackson opened the race with a mark of 55.5 establishing the Miners’ lead. The Orange and Blue sustained its lead as Stiverne posted 56.4, and Uwakwe and James followed with 53.4 and 56.7. The squad’s time is the fastest in C-USA.

James also placed second in the 60m dash (section c) with a personal best of 7.67.

In the 60m hurdle prelims (section c), Greta Kerekes posted a time of 8.79 to finish second in the heat. In the finals Kerekes lead the race as she went on to capture first place with a season best of 8.60.

On the field Samantha Hall registered a mark of 12.25m (40-02.25) in the women’s shot put.

The triple jump produced three season bests for Jayllcia Pearson, Rahelys Barsey and Monica Lopez as the posted marks of 11.89m (39-00.25), 11.56m (37-11.25), and 11.54m (37-10.50).

Leading the men was El Paso native, Daniel Tarango as he dominated the third heat in the 800m run with a season best of 1:54.71. The sophomore ultimately placed ninth out of 23 runners.

The men’s 4x400m relay team made up of Carnell Horn, Abiola Onakoya, James Bias, and Roberto Camacho finished second in the second heat and sixth overall with a time of 3:12.83.

The track and field team will have two weeks to prepare for the Conference USA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
