UTEP duo Anthony Rotich and Mark Jackson were named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mountain Region Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Year. Also garnering recognition was assistant coach Lacena Golding Clarke, who was named the Women’s Mountain Regional Assistant Coach of the Year on Monday.
Anthony Rotich, who is one of two distance runners on the Bowerman Watch List, ranks in the top-25 nationally in the mile (2nd), 5,000m (12th) and 3,000m (25th). The junior clocked in a time of 3:55.86A at the UNM Cherry & Silver Invitational finishing first overall. His time garnered the distance runner C-USA Athlete of the Week honors. The Kenyan native went on to claim three titles at the C-USA Championships helping the men’s team secure the team title. Rotich was named the Co-C-USA High Scorer of the Meet after scoring 30 points for the Miners. He will contest the mile at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.

Earning recognition on the field is Mark Jackson, who ranks No. 5 in the nation in the triple jump with a leap of 16.21m (53-2.25) and No. 24 in the long jump with a mark of 7.61m (24-11.75). The senior earned Co-C-USA High Scorer of the Meet as he secured three C-USA titles in the long jump, triple jump, and 60m guiding the squad to a C-USA title. He will compete in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships.

Rounding out the awards for the Miners was assistant coach Lacena Golding Clarke as she guided three athletes to the NCAA Indoor Track Championship this season.

In only her second season with the Miners, Golding Clarke has mentored several Miners to earn bids to the NCAA Championships. Janice Jackson will be making her second appearance at the NCAA meet after clocking in an impressive time of 8.11 in the 60m hurdles at the UNM Cherry & Silver Invitational, which ranks her ninth nationally. The senior garnered two gold and one bronze medal at the C-USA Championship. Under Golding Clarke’s leadership Sophomore Nickevea Wilson earned a crown at the C-USA Championship in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 13.13m (43-01). The jumper will make her first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
