El Paso, TX — Rugby is at UTEP. The newest club sport has 30 members, and there is no tryout... you want to be on the team, they'll take you! Rugby has been popular in high schools in the borderland, but UTEP students started the club team last year. Now the Miners are playing top teams like Texas A&M, Texas, Texas Tech, Arizona and Oklahoma...
UTEP sophomore William Knight said, "I have been playing since I was five, so I have been playing for a while, and there is no other sport like this, some people try to compare it to football, soccer, but rugby is totally different, it's its own sport.: Senior Stephen Romero added, "It's a brother hood, and people are starting to see that. Its something different for people, and unlike any other sport, and when they see it, they want to be part of it. It's growing... And going really good in El Paso."
