Miners Continue to Dominate at Home
El Paso, TX — The UTEP volleyball team wins its second game this week, as the Miners beat the Grand Canyon Antelopes, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-8). UTEP is now 12-7 overall, and 5-2 in C-USA.
Xitlali Herrera led UTEP’s offense as she hammered out a match high 16 kills, garnering her a .556 hitting percentage. Malia Patterson aided the Miner offense securing a match high 35 assists. Libero Victoria Valencia added depth on UTEP’s defense as she posted 17 digs.
Both squads fought point for point in the first set as the score tied 13 times. The Miners took the lead with 4-0-run as a kill by Taylor Nix captured the set.
The Orange and Blue continued to find success in the second stanza as it held the Antelopes to .026 hitting percentage.
Continuing their momentum the Miners dominated the final set as they held GCU to only eight points and a -.100 hitting percentage. UTEP captured the third set and the match with 13-1 run.
The Orange and Blue will return to the court Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. (MT) as they host Conference USA opponent UAB.
