After just a week on campus, UTEP Freshman Mar'Qywell Jackson has decided to leave the program. A source close to the situation told NC9 Thursday morning that Jackson had become homesick and wanted to be closer to his family. Jackson later confirmed the news on his twitter account:

UTEP Officials could not confirm that Jackson had left the program and Head Coach Tim Floyd could not be reached because he was away recruiting.

The Detroit native is rated a four-star recruit by Rivals, averaging 26 and 24 points per game his junior and senior year respectively.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard played for the Detroit Stars AAU team, where he was a teammate of the Miners’ Vince Hunter and Matt Willms. Jackson says the reason he chose UTEP was his relationship with his former teammates.
