Former UTEP Miner and Olympic bronze medalist Blessing Okagbare destroyed a stellar 100m final field to set a new African record of 10.79s at Saturday's IAAF Diamond League in London.

The Nigeria native broke her personal record earlier in the day clocking a time of 10.84s which broke the old African record of 10.90s set by Glory Alozie in 1998.

Okagbare broke the tape ahead of American Barbara Pierre (10.85s) in second, Kelly-Ann Baptiste (10.93s) of Trinidad and Tobago in third, and reigning Olympic gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.94) in fourth.

Blessing will be running in next months IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
