Tim Floyd has a depleted roster after he remove three key players amid gambling allegations. In the quest to add depth, he did not have to look far adding freshmen twin brothers and Burges High School grads Aaron and Alvin Jones from the Miner football team.

Assistant coach Bob Cantu made the announcement via twitter Tuesday night saying:

As seniors at Burges, the brothers combined to average over 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. They led the Mustangs to a 13-1 District record including the 1-4A title while reaching the Regional Quarterfinals.

The brothers were in North Carolina when the announcement was made but will return to El Paso Wednesday in time for practice and will suit up Thursday when the Miners open Conference USA play hosting Charlotte at 7pm.

As football players, Alvin was a redshirt this season while Aaron had a breakout season and was one of the top freshmen running backs in the nation ranking fifth among all FBS freshmen with 811 rushing yards despite only playing nine games for the Miners. Jones guided the Miners to rank 46th nationally and fourth in the league in rushing offense (184.7). In his first season with the Orange and Blue, the freshman registered an 81-yard run against Rice (10/26), which is the longest by an FBS freshman this season and went on to compile a career-high 186 yards rushing in that matchup.

Jones concluded the 2013 season rating 42nd in the nation in rushing yards per game (90.1), and he is the top freshman rusher in C-USA. The product of Burges High School recorded three 100-yard performances and set UTEP's freshman rushing record.

Aaron was named to the 2013 Athlon Sports Freshman All-America third team as well as College Football News All-Freshman Honorable Mention and Conference USA All-Freshman team honors.
