El Paso native shines at C-USA Championships
El Paso, TX — El Paso native Jallycia Pearson concludes day one of the 2014 Conference USA Championships for the Miners ranking first in the heptathlon with 3,372 points.
The junior claimed the top spot in three of the four events scheduled for the meet’s opening day. The Conference USA Champion kicked off the heptathlon with the 100m hurdles, where she claim the crown with a time of 14.03, -0.9.
Pearson continued to dominate the competition as she registered a personal best jump of 1.67m (5-05.75) in the high jump to secure first place. She then recorded a personal-best toss of 12.86m (42-02.25) in the shot put.
The multi-event competitor wrapped up a long day of competition with the 200m dash, where she took first in her heat. Clocking in a time of 25.27, Pearson finished fourth overall in the event.
Pearson currently has a combined score of 3,372 with the long jump, javelin throw and 800m still to participate in tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. (MT).
