UTEP Women's Basketball hits the road to face Loyola Marymount
UTEP will attempt to move to 10-0 on the year when it heads west to challenge Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. MST Saturday. The Miners (9-0) dispatched Northern Colorado, 74-51, on Dec. 13 to stay perfect on the campaign while the Lions (3-7) were bounced by Portland State, 70-55, on Dec. 10. The game will be broadcast locally in El Paso on 1150 AM. Fans can also get live updates by following @UTEPWBB on Twitter or through the gametracker feed.
Looking For Unprecedented Road Success
UTEP is 2-0 on the road for the first time since 2006-07 and the third occasion overall. It has never posted three straight road triumphs to open a year, something it will look to change against the Lions Saturday.
We Meet Again
UTEP leads the series with Loyola Marymount, 2-1, but the last meeting occurred during the 1990-91 campaign. The Miners are 1-1 all time against the Lions in Los Angeles.
December Has Been A Month To Remember
UTEP is 44-23 under Keitha Adams in December, including 3-0 this year. The Miners are 21-1 at home in the month since the start of the 2006-07 season. Other months UTEP has winning records in are November (33-21) and January (42-37).
And Then There Were 11
Four teams suffered their first loss of the season in the past week, making UTEP one of 11 undefeated squads in NCAA Division I women’s basketball (through all games play on Dec. 13).
Elite Stat-Wise Too
The Miners boast top-50 rankings in nine major team stat categories out of 336 squads nationally, including five within the top-20 (5th FG% defense, 6th 3PT% defense, 12th blocked shots, 16th scoring margin & 20th scoring defense).
This year’s Miners (9-0) stand alone for the best start to a season in program history, eclipsing the effort out of the gates by the 1996-97 squad (7-0). In terms of the Keitha Adams era, the previous record for longest winning streak to christen a campaign was four in 2006-07. That team went on to record the first 20-win season in school history at 22-8.
Talking Home Winning Streak
The Miners are now 7-0 on the year in El Paso, which ranks tied as the fourth-longest home winning streak in program history. The school standard was set during the 2007-08 season when UTEP finished 14-0 at home.
Talking Road Winning Streak
The Miners have won consecutive road games, which puts them on the cusp of notching just the sixth three-game winning streak away from home in program history. The school standard is nine, set in 2007-08, while the 1980-81 squad (twice), 1992-93 & 1997-98 teams all posted three straight victories in hostile territory.
Talking Overall Winning Streak
UTEP’s nine-game winning streak checks in as the third longest in program history. The 2006-07 squad rattled off 10 in a row, which this year’s Miners can match with a victory at Loyola Marymount on Saturday. The school standard is 23, which was set during the historic 2007-08 campaign.
