UTEP Wins on Caracter Dunk!

Sports

POSTED: Saturday, March 6, 2010 - 11:54pm

UPDATED: Sunday, March 7, 2010 - 1:01pm

Despite trailing for most of the game, UTEP comes from behind to beat UAB 52-50 and close out the regular season with a 24-5 overall record and 15-1 conference record.

UTEP was down 32-22 at the half and might have trailed by more if UAB had hit their free throws. The shooting of Myron Strong was one of the few bright spots in the first half. UAB hit their first two shots to start the 2nd half to give themselves a 14-point lead, their biggest of the game. UTEP took their first lead late in the 2nd half thanks to the effort of Derrick Caracter, who sat out most of the 1st half with foul trouble. Caracter finished with 13 points, while Strong led the team with 15.

With five seconds left on the clock, UTEP inbounded on their own side of the court and Caracter found himself open for a dunk with about a second left to seal the victory.
