The Miners (11-5, 2-1 C-USA) hit the road to face Marshall on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. MDT in the first of a four-match road trip. The Miners then head to Greenville, N.C. to take on ECU Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. MDT.

Leading UTEP is sophomore Xitlali Herrera, who matched her career-high kills total, hammering 18 against SMU this past weekend. Herrera ranks 14th nationally with 1.41 blocks per set, after adding a career-best of 12 blocks (2s/10a) in the triumph against SMU.

Sophomore setter Malia Patterson recorded a career-high 55 assists, in the victory against SMU.

The Miners fell to Tulsa (3-0) on Friday.

MARSHALL SCOUTING REPORT
Series: Marshall leads the series 6-3.

LAST TIME
Bridget Logan hammered 17 kills and hit .429 to contribute to UTEP’s .301 team hitting percentage in the 3-1 victory against Marshall on Oct. 9, 2010.

Taylor Nix and Jeane Horton each contributed nine kills and Cassandra Burruel chipped in eight for the contest.

The Miners held Marshall to .162 hitting percentage and collectively registered 18 total blocks. Burruel put up10 net stops (1s/9a).

HERD NOTABLES
Marshall returns home to host the Miners, after being swept against Memphis. The Herd brings back eight starters and nine letterwinners from its 2010 squad.Led by senior hitter, Cameron Yoho, who registers 110 kills and recorded her first double-double of the season (10 kill, 11 digs) in the Herds’ loss against Memphis. Picking up the Herd on the defensive end is junior defensive specialist, Ryanne Milligan tallying 114 digs. Freshman setter, Sammie Bane ranks ninth in the conference in assists per set with 8.71.

ECU SCOUTING REPORT
Series: Miners lead the series 6-3.

LAST TIME
The Miners swept past the Pirates (3-0) on Sept. 26, 2010.

The Miners averaged 19.7 digs per set while putting up 11 blocks for the match. Stephanie Figueroa chipped in 15 digs and Kyla Muela had five blocks – all assists.

The Orange and Blue’s defense held East Carolina to 33 kills and forced 22 errors to force a .090 hitting efficiency. The Pirates were able to come away with 34 digs, including 10 by Amanda Lutzow.

UTEP combined for 43 kills to the Pirates’ 33 and Melissa Toth, Jeane Horton and Jacqueline Cason each had eight kills for the match.

PIRATE NOTABLES
East Carolina, who is coming off a three game road-losing streak, returns 10 letterwinners, six of who were starters in 2010.

Senior outside hitter Britney Roper, leads ECU in kills (108), and ranks fourth in C-USA service aces (41). Setting for the Pirates sophomore setter, Kasey Kavanough, registering 5.08 assists per set. Recording a match high of 17 digs (5.67 d/s) against UAB last weekend, sophomore libero Shelby Beasley, carries the defense tallying 166 digs in 2011.
