UTEP Volleyball coach leaves for Northern Arizona
El Paso, TX — This past weekend, UTEP Volleyball coach Ken Murphy stepped down as the Miners coach to accept the same position at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Murphy was the 2012 Conference USA Coach of the Year and though his overall record did not show it (82-135), Murphy led UTEP to a solid season at 10-6 in Conference USA in 2012.
"It has been a pleasure representing UTEP and being a part of the El Paso community over the past seven years. I’m so appreciative of the contributions made by our staff and the UTEP administration to help elevate our program to where it is today. Mostly, however, I’m thankful to our players. They have created a supportive, character-driven culture in our program that has been the biggest reason for our growth and success. I will truly miss being a part of this special group." - Ken Murphy
Murphy came to UTEP after serving six seasons as the associate head coach for the University of Idaho, where he helped lead the Vandals to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003 and 2004. Prior to Idaho, Murphy was an assistant coach at Colorado State. He helped the Rams qualify for three NCAA tournaments, including a Sweet-16 appearance in 1999 and second-round showings in 1997 and 1998.
