UTEP Vies for National TV Commercial Contest

The University of Texas at El Paso is rallying its fans near and far to compete in becoming the first campus selected by fans to be featured in an ESPN College GameDay television commercial.

A nationwide vote to let fans decide the winning campus will take place during a 10-day period starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 23. The winner will be announced shortly after the contest ends on Wednesday, May 2. Fans will be allowed one vote per day.

The University will host a pep rally at 6 a.m. Monday, April 23 inside the Sun Bowl to kick off the voting. Fans are invited to attend.

“UTEP has the greatest fans in the country and a spectacular campus,” UTEP Football Coach Mike Price said. “This is our opportunity to showcase both to a national audience. I hope all Miner fans will unite and vote to bring the College GameDay crew to El Paso. I can’t wait to get Desmond Howard, Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit in the Sun City!”

UTEP is one of more than 120 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools eager to participate in the challenge. The winning school will be featured in a College GameDay ad that will run on the ESPN family of networks this fall.

The tentative date for the show to air is Sunday, Aug. 19 on ESPNU.
