UTEP Softballers Honored
UTEP softball’s Camilla Carrera and Chelsea Troupe were named Easton Fastpitch All-Americans announced Easton Sports, Inc. on Monday. This is the first such honor for the seniors and the softball proram.
Carrera was tabbed first team All-American while Troupe was named to the second team.
A native of Laveen, Ariz., Carrera was also named to the NFCA All-America first team. She ended her career with 32 home runs and slugged 1.199 during her senior campaign. Both marks are the second-best in NCAA Division I single-season history. Her average of 0.60 home runs per game set a new single-season standard in the NCAA recordbook.
The 2012 C-USA Player of the Year, Carrera's batting average of .453 ranks sixth nationally as does her walks per game (0.92) and her on-base percentage of 0.604 ranks third. Carrera posted C-USA bests in runs (62), RBIs (66), total bases (169), and walks (49).
Troupe, from Oceanside, Calif., blasted 19 home runs to place her 14th in the nation in the category. Troupe batted a stellar .432 for the Orange and Blue driving in 44 on 69 hits and scoring 56 runs. She finished in the league's top-five in 11 major offensive categories.
Named to the All-Conference USA first team, her 0.36 home runs per game ranks 8th in the nation as does her slugging percentage (0.833). She ranks 13th in runs per game (1.06) and 15th in batting average (.432).
